Boat hoist falls over Tuesday at Grand Haven marina

A boat hoist at North Shore Marina, 18275 Berwyck St., tipped over about noon Tuesday, when it ran off the steel launching track, according to a spokesperson at the marina. Truck cranes from Erickson's Inc. were called to the scene to right the hoist. According to an observer who lives nearby, a second crane was eventually called to the scene so the hoist could be lifted from both ends. The observer said there was a boat being loaded onto the hoist at the time of the fall.

The marina spokesperson said there was no boat in the hoist, which she called a travel lift, at the time.

An employee at Erickson’s Muskegon office confirmed that the company went to the marina on a service call.

The marina spokesperson said all necessary precautions were in place and all employees responded as needed.

The travel lift was back in place within four hours and operations are back to normal, the spokesperson said.

Nobody was injured in the incident, she said.
