Man dies after boat flips in Montcalm County lake

A 39-year-old Greenville man died Sunday after the boat he was fishing from overturned in a small Montcalm County lake. Don Sargeant died after falling into the water Sunday afternoon near Sheridan, about 35 miles northeast of Grand Rapids. A 72-year-old Fenwick man who was with him swam to shore safely. Two sheriff's deputies with life jackets swam to Sargeant and brought him to shore with the help of a rescue boat.Sargeant was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Investigators said personal floatation devices were on the 12-foot aluminum boat, but neither man was using one.
