SUV run over by semitrailer in Holland Township

Three Zeeland men were hospitalized after their sport utility vehicle went under a semitrailer at a Holland Township intersection on Monday, police said. Police said the accident happened shortly after 6:15 p.m. when Amrit Mundy, 23, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, drove his semitrailer truck through a red light on southbound U.S. 31 at Quincy Street. Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department said the empty semitrailer was struck by a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor being driven east through the intersection by 67-year-old Ron Sisouphone of Zeeland.

The SUV ran into the trailer, knocking the trailer’s rear axle off and causing it to run over the SUV. The trailer came to rest south of the intersection, Buter said.

Sisouphone and his two passengers — Vee Vorachith, 73, and Chomma Vongmathep, 85, all of Zeeland — received non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Holland Hospital, Buter said. Sisouphone is in fair condition, and Voracith and Vongmathep were treated and released, a hospital official said this morning.

Mundy was not injured in the crash, Buter said.
