Authorities investigate shooting, find marijuana

Authorities said they found a marijuana growing operation while investigating the accidental shooting of a 10-year-old boy in southern Michigan. The Jackson Citizen Patriot reported Friday that the boy's 44-year-old father could face charges including second-degree child abuse and manufacturing marijuana after the growing operation was found at the home in Calhoun County's Sheridan Township. The man's name wasn't released.

Authorities said the boy found the loaded shotgun Wednesday night and accidentally depressed the trigger while cleaning out a garage. The sheriff’s department said the boy was taken to a hospital for treatment, and they investigated after being called to the hospital.

Authorities said the boy’s injuries did not appear life-threatening.
