Muskegon boy dies in 1-car crash

A 4-year-old Muskegon boy was killed Friday night when the car he was riding in went off the road and hit a tree, according to Michigan State Police. Elijah Wolfenbargen was one of three people taken by ambulance to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, where the boy was pronounced dead due to injuries suffered in the crash, police said. The crash occurred in the area of Sternberg Road near South Hilton Park Road in Muskegon County's Sullivan Township.

Police said the car was driven by the boy’s 19-year-old uncle, who suffered a collapsed lung and was admitted to the hospital. The man’s name was not being released pending an investigation into the crash.

A second passenger — Leticia Ramos, 2 — was hospitalized with a broken pelvis, police said.

The two kids were in booster seats in the back seat of the car, with only a lap belt buckled, police said.

Alcohol does appear to be a factor in the crash, police said.
