Three injured in Coopersville accident on Saturday

Three people were injured in a two-car accident reported at 10:43 p.m. Saturday near the entrance ramp to eastbound Interstate 96 near Coopersville, said Sgt. Bob Ruster of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. The most seriously injured, David Hanson, 31, of Grand Rapids, was in fair condition today at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, a hospital spokeswoman said. Hanson was the front-seat passenger in a sport utility vehicle being driven by Jordan Gall, 16, of Coopersville.

Also injured in that vehicle was Brenda Hanson, 42, who was taken by ambulance to the hospital in stable condition on Saturday, Ruster said. Her condition was not available today.

The driver of the second vehicle, Terri Dufenbach, also of Grand Rapids, was also taken to Butterworth Hospital in stable condition, Ruster said. No information was available on her, the hospital spokesperson said this morning.

Two other passengers in the SUV — Aaron Hanson, 12, and Tasha Hanson, 6 — were not injured.

Police said Gall was driving the 1996 Chevy Suburban south on 68th Avenue and attempted to make an eastbound turn onto the ramp, driving into the path of Dufenbach’s vehicle, a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck. Dufenbach was driving north on 68th Avenue.

All of the people in both vehicles were wearing seat belts, Ruster said. David Hanson had to be extricated from the SUV by firefighters after the crash.
