Man in serious condition after crash

A Hudsonville man is in serious condition following a two-vehicle accident late Saturday afternoon in Jamestown Township. Steven Dykema, 53, was taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids after the 5:24 p.m. collision, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. He suffered a head injury. A passenger in his car Amy Dykema, 42, also of Hudsonville, was in fair condition this morning at Butterworth, a hospital spokesperson said. They were both wearing seat belts.

Police said Steven Dykema was driving a 1997 Ford pickup truck south on Eighth Avenue, stopped for a stop sign at the Adams Street intersection, then drove into the path of a 2010 Dodge Caravan driven by Daniel Lange, 42, of Allegan.

Lange was not injured; however, two passengers in his vehicle — Audra Lange, 42, and Zoe Lange, 4 — were taken by ambulance to Holland Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released, police said. Two other passengers were not injured.

The accident is still under investigation.
