Jamestown Twp. collision sends 2 to the hospital

A Clarksville woman was injured Tuesday evening when she turned her car into the path of a pickup truck towing a boat in Jamestown Township. Police said Ellie Veltman, 20, stopped her 1990 Pontiac Bonneville on westbound Riley Street at the stop sign at 32nd Avenue shortly before 6:30 p.m. Witnesses said she then attempted a turn onto 32nd Avenue and collided with a 1999 GMC truck pulling a 17-foot boat.

The collision sent the car into a ditch. Veltman had to be extricated from her smashed car by Jamestown Township Fire-Rescue personnel, and taken in critical condition to Spectrum Health Hospital in Grand Rapids by the AeroMed ambulance helicopter, said Sgt. Jon Wolffis of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Veltman has since been upgraded to fair condition, a hospital spokesperson said this morning.

The pickup driver — Kenneth Trumble, 46, of Jenison — was taken by ambulance to Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming by ambulance in stable condition, police said.
