Suspect pleads guilty to armed robbery

A 50-year-old Holton man charged in connection with the armed robbery of a Ferrysburg convenience store has pleaded guilty to the charges. A sentencing date has been set for Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. Jon Lee DeJong, 8816 Holton Road, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of armed robbery and one count of fleeing police, third degree, in Ottawa County 20th Circuit Court. In exchange, prosecutors will not charge him with being an habitual offender or operating under the influence of drugs, according to court records.

DeJong was arrested around 8:30 p.m. July 30 after leading police on a high-speed chase. He was alleged to have gone into The Reef, 17176 W. Spring Lake Road, about 8:15 p.m., and demanded money at gunpoint.

DeJong was also suspected of robbing the Kountry Korners store in Fruitport Township earlier that day. For that crime, he waived preliminary examination on charges of armed robbery and fourth-offense habitual offender Aug. 17 in Muskegon County Circuit Court, said Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Brett Gardner.
