Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said Nelson broke into the victim’s home on View Drive early on Aug. 12. The woman homeowner was in the home at the time and was confronted by Nelson.

According to Bennett, the homeowner wasn’t assaulted and was able to flee the scene, but she was injured getting out of her house.

The woman was able to get to a neighbor’s home safely, Bennett said.

Investigators determined Nelson fled the scene and found evidence that led them to his home in Muskegon on Wednesday, at which time he was apprehended by police.

Nelson is being held in the Ottawa County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
