SLT mobile home destroyed in fire

A trailer home at the Country Estates Mobile Home Park in Spring Lake Township was destroyed in a fire Friday night. Neighbors called 911 at about 8:45 p.m. after they saw smoke coming out of the trailer at 17399 Greenspire Drive, Spring Lake Fire Marshal Brian Sipe said. "First arriving fire units found heavy black smoke coming from the residence,' Sipe said. "Upon entering the residence, conditions worsened and firefighters were forced to make a defensive attack.'

The home’s occupant, Gladys Keech, was not home at the time of the fire. Sipe said firefighters extinguished the fire within an hour and no one was injured.

The residence is a total loss, Sipe said, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Spring Lake Fire Department was assisted by the Ferrysburg and Crockery Township fire departments, North Ottawa Community Hospital paramedics, and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

All of the units cleared the scene at 11:36 p.m., Sipe said.
