Three injured in Jamestown Township 2-car crash

A Jenison man was seriously injured when his pickup truck was broadsided Wednesday evening in Jamestown Township, said Sgt. Bob Ruster of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Lester Ball, 68, was driving his 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck south on Eighth Avenue when his truck was hit by a 2008 Honda Odyssey van, Ruster said. The van, driven by Jennifer Zuverink, 30, of Hudsonville, was westbound on Perry Street at about 7:20 p.m. and traveled through the stop sign at Eighth Avenue, Ruster said.

“The setting sun may have been a factor in this crash,” Ruster said.

Ball’s truck went into a field and flipped over, Ruster said. Ball was taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids with life-threatening leg and head injuries.

Zuverink and one of her children, Avery, 3, suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids, Ruster said. Another daughter, three-month-old Emma, was not injured.

Everyone in both vehicles was wearing a seatbelt or were properly restrained in a child seat, Ruster said.

The accident remains under investigation.
