GR-area teen arrested in Georgetown Twp. thefts

A Wyoming teen was arrested in a stolen car after a chase that ended up in an accident early Sunday morning, said Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Brent Ireland, 17, suffered minor injuries in the accident and was treated and released, Buter said. Ireland was then arrested and arraigned on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, third-degree fleeing, and eluding and operating while intoxicated, Buter said.

Ireland was apprehended after an Ottawa County deputy noticed him driving erratically on Baldwin Street shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday, Buter said. The deputy tried to make a traffic stop, but Ireland kept going in the Chevrolet Prism for several miles until he was involved in an accident at Baldwin and Mill.

The teen was connected to numerous crimes over the weekend — including breaking and entering of unlocked garages and outbuildings, breaking into some motor vehicles, and the theft of one of the vehicles, Buter said. There were as many as 20 incidents, he said.
