The driver of the SUV apparently hit a patch of road where water had accumulated. Driving at a high rate of speed, he lost control, launched off the embankment and landed on the house, police said.

The two men who were killed were passengers in the SUV. State police identified them as 24-year-old Chad Bradbury and 22-year-old Michael Stille.

Police said the 25-year-old driver freed himself from the wreckage. He was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive, police said.

Homeowners Scott and Judy Vanderzaag said they had just finished remodeling the house about two months ago, in the area where the SUV hit.

There is no word yet if any charges will be filed against the driver in the crash.
