Odor keeps students inside Ottawa County school

Students at Forest Grove Elementary School were kept inside Tuesday morning after a mysterious odor was detected around the school by students and faculty. Sgt. Valerie Weiss of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department said deputies were called to the school, 1645 32nd Ave. in Hudsonville, at about 9:15 a.m. on reports of the odor. The Sheriff's Department worked with school officials and Ottawa County Emergency Management to determine the origin of the smell, Weiss said.

According to Weiss, after investigating, it was determined that the smell was compost manure from an area farm being loaded onto a truck in a large quantity.
