Man suspected in father’s death shoots self, dies

Police said an Allegan County man suspected of gunning down his 73-year-old father has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Allegan County Sheriff's Department said Roger Polmanteer, 50, shot himself in the face with a rifle as deputies pursued him Friday. The Holland Sentinel reported he died Saturday afternoon. The Sheriff's Department said a relative found the body of Lloyd Polmanteer on Thursday in the Watson Township home he and his son shared.

On Friday morning, the department said it got a call that the son was trying to use his father’s credit card at a restaurant in Allegan Township, just west of Allegan. When deputies arrived, they found him outside.

Police said he ran behind the restaurant, grabbed a rifle and shot himself.
