Police investigators have released the names of the two bank robbery suspects who were shot and killed in Ottawa County after a high-speed chase on Thursday morning. Michigan State Police have identified the two suspects as Kristopher "Kris' Joe Cheyne, 36; and Derryl Lee Lafave Jr., 32, both of Wyoming. Police said Lafave also was known as D.J. Lafave.

The pair fled from police after robbing a bank in Ravenna at around 10 a.m. Thursday; led officers from Muskegon and Ottawa counties, and state troopers on a high-speed chase south into Coopersville and onto Interstate 96; and eventually crashed at the Marne/Eighth Avenue exit ramp from westbound I-96 in Tallmadge Township. Police said Cheyne and Lafave exited their vehicle and opened fire on officers, who shot and killed the two men.

Before crashing their vehicle, the suspects ran over and killed Walker Police Officer Trevor Slot, who was placing tire spikes in the ramp roadway in an effort to stop or slow down the getaway vehicle.

In a news release this afternoon from the Rockford post, state police said investigators are continuing to piece together the events of Thursday by reviewing dispatch tapes, conducting interviews and examining physical evidence from the scene.

I personally know DJ and Kris, and can't believe what happened. I'm not condoning their actions in any way and do not know how they found themselves in this terrible mess, but can say that both were good dudes, regardless of what others say after this tragedy transpired. I knew both fairly well, and they were not crazed killers. I'm so sorry for all three families that lost a loved one, but just wanted to let it be known that these guys were normal folks, that got themselves in a bad spot, and freaked out like some crazy ally cat. God bless .... BIG TEX......
