Police said Daniel Tate Jr. was riding west on Savidge Street crossing Cutler Street when he was hit by a van. The van was trying to turn from northbound Cutler to eastbound Savidge Street, said Sgt. Curt Theune of the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Department.

The woman driving the van had stopped for the stop sign, then proceeded to turn when traffic cleared. The bicyclist started crossing the street at the same time.

“He didn’t stop,” Theune said of the bicyclist.

No tickets were issued because “they both were basically at fault,” Theune said.

Tate taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital where he was treated and released, a hospital official said.
