Straps break, boat slips off trailer

A boat in the road caused a traffic tie-up for a short time Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Third and Jackson streets, said Lt. Joe Boyle of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.

Fredric Reid of Grand Haven had just taken a 1987 Bayliner cabin cruiser out of the water for the boat’s owner, John Cook, also of Grand Haven, Boyle said. The boat was strapped to a trailer, but the straps broke when Reid stopped at the Jackson Street intersection about 3:30 p.m. The boat slipped off the trailer and partially into the intersection.

Reid had already called a towing company when police arrived on the scene, Boyle said, and the slightly damaged boat was put back on the trailer and secured with new straps.
