“She’s due in a couple of weeks, so they want to watch the baby,” said her husband, Joe Sands, who was a front-seat passenger.

Joe Sands said he was shaken up from the accident, but not hurt.

The Sands’ 17-month-old daughter, Sparrow, was in the back seat of the van and suffered a minor head injury, Joe Sands said. Sparrow Sands was treated and released at NOCH on Monday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Carrie Sands was admitted to the hospital’s Family Birthing Unit for observation, a NOCH spokeswoman said this morning.

According to Joe Sands, his wife was turning left from Comstock Street onto Mercury Drive at around 6:45 p.m. and pulled into the path of a Jeep, which was southbound on Mercury.

There was no information on the driver of the Jeep. The police report was unavailable by press time today.
