Body of missing woman found in K’zoo County

Authorities have found the body of a woman who was reported missing in southwestern Michigan after she didn't return home from a walk with her dog.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reported the body of 62-year-old Joan Marie Staskus was found Thursday morning. She was reported missing Wednesday after she left with her dog in Kalamazoo County’s Maple Grove Township. The animal returned later without her.

Dogs from the sheriff’s office and Michigan State Police searched the area and found Staskus’ body. A helicopter also was used in the search.

The death was under investigation.
