Sgt. Jon Wolffis of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said the accident occurred at 10:31 p.m. when Raymond Davis, 23, of Grand Haven veered from the southbound lane in a construction zone, across the median and into the highway’s northbound lane. Davis’ vehicle then collided with a vehicle driven by Chicago resident David Madden, 41.
Wolffis said both vehicles came to rest in the middle of U.S. 31.
Police did not say why Davis lost control of his vehicle.
Olive Township Fire Rescue crews had to extricate Madden and his passenger, Catherine Seroczynski, 48, from the vehicle.
All three victims were transported to Holland Hospital by AMR Ambulance, Wolffis said.
Wolfis said northbound U.S. 31 was closed for two hours while emergency crews investigated the scene.
