Timothy Ralph Johnson, 44, was taken by ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids after the 9:15 p.m. accident, Garvelink said. Johnson was in stable condition at the time; however, hospital officials said this morning that they have no record of Johnson being at the hospital.
Police said Johnson was driving west on Ironwood and failed to stop where the road ends near Hayes Street. His car left the road, hit a berm and went airborne. It rolled several times before landing on the off-ramp for eastbound Interstate 96 near the 24-mile marker.
The ramp was closed briefly while crews cleaned up the crash, Garvelink said.
The accident is still under investigation.
