Holland teen killed in Zeeland Township accident

An 18-year-old Holland woman was killed Friday morning when a vehicle ran a stop sign at 96th Avenue and hit her broadside, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.

Danielle Clous was traveling north on 96th Avenue at approximately 8:20 a.m. Her car was hit by a vehicle being driven east on New Holland Street by Jerome Hitsman, 73, of Zeeland, who ran the stop sign.

Clous was transported to Zeeland Community Hospital, where she died a short time later, Austin said.

Hitsman and his 10-year-old passenger, Arianna Gwilliams, received non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.
