The Associated Press reported that Officer Sean Parsons briefly lost consciousness after his cruiser was hit early Sunday. Parsons’ patrol car was reportedly stopped with its lights activated.

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department said Parsons, 26, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police said they found the vehicle that struck the cruiser, but its driver was gone.

On Monday, 24-year-old Mitchell Byrne surrendered and was taken to the Montcalm County Jail.

His arraignment on charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and reckless driving was expected today.
