The Traverse City Record-Eagle reported that prosecutors issued a warrant for Carolyn Lavon Burns last week on a charge of embezzlement.

A telephone listing for Burns was disconnected.

A report written by a detective with the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Department says Burns began stealing from the Blair Township church after being promoted from part-time receptionist to business manager in 2009. The report says she wrote checks to herself and her husband’s company from church funds, stole from the collection plate, and used church credit cards to buy groceries and other household goods.

The church pastor, the Rev. Don Geyman, says it’s a time of prayer for everyone involved.
