2 barns full of pigs burn near Conklin

Firefighters from Ottawa, Kent and Muskegon counties responded to a barn fire near Conklin around 9 p.m. Thursday.

According to the fire crews, the fire started in one barn in the 4400 block of Gooding Street in Chester Township, before spreading to a second barn. There were at least 100 pigs in the barns, but authorities did not say how may were killed in the fire. 

About 50 firefighters spent three hours trying to contain the fires.

The two barns are a total loss, but no people were hurt, authorities said.
