Leon Weathers, 47, suffered internal chest and pelvic fractures in the 7:55 p.m. accident, said Sgt. Bob Ruster of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Weathers was listed in critical condition this morning at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital, a spokeswoman for the Grand Rapids hospital said.

Weathers, driving a 2002 Chrysler Sebring, pulled out of the Leisure Village Mobile Home Park into the path of a 1996 Ford Contour driven by Candelario Trejo, 51, of Holland, Ruster said. Trejo’s car struck Weathers’ car in the driver’s door.

Weathers was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Holland Township firefighters, Ruster said. He was taken by ambulance to Holland Hospital before being transferred by AeroMed to the Grand Rapids hospital.

Trejo was taken by ambulance to Holland Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Ruster said.

“Alcohol does appear to be a factor in the accident,” Ruster said.

The accident remains under investigation.
