Intruders sought in east-side business break-ins

Police are looking for help in solving two break-ins to east-side businesses over the weekend, said Lt. Joe Boyle of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety. Alarms went off at both businesses, possibly keeping any thefts to a minimum, Boyle said.

Police were called at 3:25 a.m. Sunday to Rent-A-Center, 1037 S. Beacon Blvd., when someone smashed out a glass front door to break into the business, Boyle said. A large-screen LED television was taken in the grab-and-go incident, he said. There was nobody around when police arrived on the scene.

Police were called about 12:20 a.m. Monday to the Oasis Party Store, 541 S. Beechtree St., on a burglar alarm, Boyle said. Police again set up a perimeter after discovering a smashed window. Again, nobody was found.

Boyle said officers called for the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit. The K-9 unit followed a scent to the area of Pennoyer and Eastern streets before losing the track, he said.

It did not appear as if anything was stolen from the party store, Boyle said.

Anyone who has any information, or who might have witnessed something suspicious in the area at the time of either break-in, is asked to call GHDPS at 842-3460 or Silent Observer at 1-877-88-SILENT.
