James Santos, 48, was attempting to cross 112th Avenue near Chicago Drive shortly after 3:30 p.m. Friday when he was hit by a sport utility vehicle that had just entered 112th from Interstate 196, police said. The driver of the GMC Envoy did not see Santos, said Sgt. Brent Converse of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Santos laying in the roadway. He was treated at the scene for face and head injuries, then taken by AMR Ambulance to Holland Hospital.

Converse said Santos was not wearing a helmet, which may have reduced his injuries.
