Elizabeth Smith, 32, pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of obtaining money by false pretenses.
Police said Smith told friends and family earlier this year that she was diagnosed with cancer, and they gave her up to $10,000. She also received money from a fundraiser at a Muskegon VFW hall.
Smith’s employer reportedly tipped off Ottawa County deputies after receiving suspicious doctor slips for time off work, and Smith later admitted to forging her doctor’s name.
