Infant shot while sleeping

Police said an 11-month-old girl is recovering after being shot while sleeping at a home in Grand Rapids.

Officials reported a man fired a shotgun inside the home about 1:30 a.m. today and birdshot went through a wall, hitting the girl in the face.

WWMT-TV reported the girl was taken to a hospital and was expected to recover. WOOD-TV reported she had been sleeping in a playpen.

Police said they were questioning the man, who was in custody. It wasn’t immediately known whether the gun was intentionally fired.
