Police said the accident occurred at 11:25 a.m. when 21-year-old Christopher George of Nunica was driving his 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck south on 96th Avenue. His truck was struck by Douglas Bottje’s vehicle, which was eastbound on Leonard Road.

Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said George failed to yield to Bottje’s vehicle at the intersection, causing Bottje’s vehicle to strike George’s truck in the passenger side. Bottje’s vehicle also spun and flipped, and knocked signs over.

Bottje, 62; and a passenger in his truck, Diane Bottje, 61, were both transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Austin said.

All drivers were wearing seat belts. George was cited for failure to yield to the right of way, Austin said.
