OCSD supervisor fired for ‘inappropriate’ behavior

A male patrol supervisor for the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department was fired Friday for inappropriate behavior, Undersheriff Greg Steigenga said this morning.

Because it was a personnel matter and not a criminal matter, the sergeant’s name would not be released, Steigenga said.

The sergeant had been put on administrative leave (with pay) Dec. 9 pending an investigation into complaints alleging “inappropriate comments made to subordinate staff,” Steigenga said.

Once the investigation was completed, “we took the action that we deemed appropriate,” Steigenga said.

“Obviously, if it was criminal activity, we would release much more information,” he said.
