Berrien County Prosecutor Arthur Cotter said the teen shot David Quinn Jr. in the face early Tuesday at Quinn’s house in Pipestone Township, 75 miles south-southwest of Grand Rapids.

Cotter said he’s petitioned to have the case moved to adult criminal court because of its seriousness and the fact that the girl turns 17 in two months. Seventeen-year-olds are adults under Michigan criminal law.

Defense lawyer Lanny Fisher said his client was hurt fighting with her boyfriend, was under the influence of alcohol and hadn’t been in trouble before.

On Wednesday, a judge ordered her held on a $500,000 bond pending a hearing Feb. 10.
