A 29-year-old Grand Haven man had to be extricated from his car after the 2:50 p.m. accident, police said. Blake Minnick was taken by ambulance to Holland Hospital where he was treated, then released, a hospital spokesperson said.
Minnick was driving a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta north on 152nd Avenue and failed to stop for the stop sign at Quincy, Converse said. He drove into the path of a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Carrie Overweg, 30, of Park Township.
After the collision, the two vehicles ended up in a ditch on the northwest corner of the intersection — with Minnick’s car up against a utility pole, Converse said. Minnick was unable to get out of his smashed car due to the nature of his injuries, and had to be extricated by Park Township firefighters.
Overweg and two passengers in her car — Madison Overweg, 11; and Mayce Overweg, 5 — suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Holland Hospital. They were all treated and released, a hospital spokesperson said.
Converse said that everyone except Madison was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, he said.
