A 22-year-old Olive Township man died late Saturday morning when his motorcycle ran into the back of a Chevrolet Blazer on M-45 at 88th Avenue in Allendale, according to Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Coly Cody VanderWerf was pronounced dead at the scene by an AeroMed doctor, Austin said.

VanderWerf and his father were traveling west on separate motorcycles when the younger man failed to stop for the vehicle in front of him. Police said that vehicle, driven by Myra Amara-Alvarez of Grand Haven Township, had slowed for vehicles in front of her that were waiting to turn at the intersection.

In a separate incident, a 43-year-old Hamilton man was seriously injured in a rear-end crash that occurred at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Bob Ruster, also of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Kirt Vandevusse was westbound on his motorcycle on Ottawa Beach Road, and failed to stop for a pickup truck stopped in front of him at Oakwood Avenue, Ruster said. The truck, driven by Todd Dewys of Holland, had stopped and was waiting for traffic to clear so he could make a turn, Ruster said.
