The fire was burning Monday afternoon near Big Blue Lake, about 15 miles north of Muskegon. Firefighters from Blue Lake, Holton and Dalton townships in Muskegon County; and Grant Township in Oceana County worked with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to control the blaze.

Muskegon County Central Dispatch said a man filling a gas tank somehow ignited the fire, which spread quickly because of dry underbrush and strong winds.
