Police received a tip through the Silent Observer program late last week that the suspect in the April 11 robbery of the Macatawa Bank branch, 12415 Riley St., was a 44-year-old Holland Township man. The caller identified the suspect through photos — taken from the bank surveillance camera — that were released to the media, said Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.

Late Sunday, the suspect was stopped on a traffic violation in La Porte, Ind. Upon further investigation, police there discovered the federal bank robbery warrant and arrested Jeffrey Dail Grout.

Grout is being held in a La Porte jail as arrangements are being made for his extradition back to Michigan, Bennett said.

An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the bank. A teller said the suspect implied he had a weapon, but none was seen.

Bennett said the Sheriff's Department has been working with the FBI on the case, which remains under investigation.
