Kurt Rodrigues, 40, was riding his cycle east on Leonard about 3:44 p.m. when a westbound car turned onto Fern Street in front of him. That's when the motorcycle and car collided, according to Rodrigues' son, Darren Rodrigues of Spring Lake.

Darren, who lives about two houses away from Fern Street, said he had just arrived home when he heard a loud honk and then a crash. Darren said he looked out the window and saw his father sitting in the road, rocking back and forth, with his arms around his knee.

Kurt Rodrigues was conscious and talking when he was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital. Witnesses said he was wearing a helmet.

Spring Lake Township firefighters and Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene.
