The incident happened at about 9:45 p.m. on White Lake Drive. The Muskegon County Sheriff's Department said Erica Michelle Watson, 24, died at the scene.

Hanesis Bell, 4, was treated and released from Hackley Hospital in Muskegon. Eryk Watson, 6 months; and Hollis Bell, 1, are at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids in stable condition.

A friend of Watson's said she had paid a neighbor $25 to drive to Holland and bring her and her three children to Blue Lake Township to celebrate Mothers' Day with her. After a day of celebrating and drinking, the neighbor backed out of driving Watson back to Holland. After a dispute, Watson left the friend's home on foot with her kids.

A short time later, a driver called 911 to report a woman walking in the road with her children. Three minutes later, another driver called 911 saying that he had run into the family.

In the meantime, neighbors said they had found another ride home for Watson and the kids, but it was too late.

Police said alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the incident. The name of the driver is not being released as there are no charges at this time, police said, but the crash is still under investigation.
