“Somebody is out on a lawn ornament binge,” said Lt. Renee Freeman of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety. “We are taking some measures to resolve the situation.”

Freeman declined to say what those steps would be, but asked for help from people in the targeted neighborhoods to be on alert for any suspicious activity.

“If anyone hears or sees anything, call 911,” she said.

Police had several reports of missing plants, chairs and lawn ornaments on Oakes Avenue, Barbara Court and South Griffin Street, Freeman confirmed.

Area resident Eric Koopmans, who lives on Marion Street, said he was not aware of the incidents, but he also was not surprised by it. “We get a lot of walk-by traffic,” he said.

The previous weekend, residents in the Village Green Mobile Home Park on Robbins Road reported thefts of similar items overnight. Birdbaths and solar lights were also among the missing items.

Freeman said there are no suspects at this time and none of the stolen items have been recovered.

Anyone with information about the stolen yard items should call the police department at 842-3460 or Silent Observer at 1-877-88-SILENT.
