The 35-year-old Holton woman was driving north on the highway at about 4:45 p.m., police said, when she reportedly swerved to avoid striking a vehicle in front of her that had rapidly slowed down. While swerving, the Holton woman's car left the right side of the roadway near Sherman Boulevard in Fruitport Township, rolled over, and eventually came to rest on its roof.
The woman was extricated from her car by the Fruitport Township Fire Department. The woman and a passenger in her car, her 6-year-old daughter, were both taken to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon by ProMed Ambulance.
Fruitport Township Police said family members reported Friday the woman is still in the hospital, being treated for multiple broken bones, and there is no suspected risk to the unborn child. The 6-year-old girl was treated for minor injuries and released.
Both the driver and passenger were properly restrained with seat belts and child restraints, police said.
