GR man rescued by swimmers near City Beach

A 26-year-old Grand Rapids man tired while swimming from a boat to the beach and had to be assisted by other swimmers in the area, said Lt. Renee Freeman of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.

Emergency crews were called to City Beach at about 2:40 p.m. on Sunday for a near drowning.

The man had already been helped to shore, Freeman said. He was treated by paramedics on the scene, and then taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital.

No other information was available.
