The man’s name was not released pending arraignment this afternoon in 58th District Court.

Shortly after 3 a.m. today, Ottawa County Central Dispatch began receiving calls of a disturbance in an apartment complex located at 341 N. State St. in Zeeland. Callers said there was commotion in an apartment and a male dragged a young woman from the building, police said. The woman was taken through a wooded area to an adjacent complex and placed in the suspect’s vehicle. Additional calls came from that apartment complex.

About two hours after being abducted, the woman was able to escape in the area of 136th Avenue and Quincy Street in Holland Township, police said. This was about 6 miles away from the apartment complex.

Police were able to locate the 22-year-old woman and determined that she had apparent, but minor injuries for which she refused treatment.

The woman told police she had prior domestic problems with the suspect, but had never reported them. She said she and the suspect have a child in common, and have known each other since high school. The child was not involved in this incident.

About 6 a.m. today, the suspect was found in Holland Township and was taken to the Ottawa County Jail, police said.

Zeeland Police said they are seeking charges related to kidnapping, home invasion, aggravated assault and domestic violence.
