Norton Shores residents are on edge again after an armed robbery and shooting early Sunday.

Police said a man robbed Sunny Mart, 2906 Getty St. in Norton Shores, at gunpoint shortly after midnight. The suspect shot the clerk in the leg with a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol before fleeing the scene on foot, police said.

The suspect was described as a black man in his 20s, and about 6 feet, 1 inch tall. He was dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt with black shorts, and had a black or blue bandana covering his face.

Police are also looking for the driver of a white conversion van that was near the area at the time of the incident. Lt. Jon Gale of the Norton Shores Police Department said it’s not clear if the van is connected with the robbery and shooting.

“We’re diligently following up with leads," Gale added.

Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Observer at 231-722-7463 or Norton Shores Police at 231-733-2691.

The armed robbery and shooting happened a little more than a month after a drive-by shooting at a Norton Shores gas station. That shooting took place at the Shell gas station on the corner of Henry Street and Sherman Boulevard on May 21.

I couldn't agree more here with tednugent4pres and truthhurts. This is just a sneak preview of Cultural Diversity I hear some want in Grand Haven. Be careful what you wish for. There's a storm on the horizon whether you want to believe it or not.

ArrozConPollo

You better believe it! You should probably invest in some Spanish lessons, PolloAtomico.

De acuerdo, la población es y será más diversa cada día.

AtomicRooster, your statement is bigoted and racist.

AtomicRooster

My statement is neither racist or bigoted. It is only that way because you found it easy to perceive it that way. Obviously you do not live in the real world. You've never lived in a high crime area such as the Marquette/Jackson Hill area of Muskegon or better yet Muskegon Heights. You should go live in those two areas for a couple of months to get yourself an up close and personal experience of how it really is. And how living in fear daily is a normal way of life. And walking the streets at night is NOT advised. It has nothing to do with racism or bigotry. It is reality. But trying to explain that to someone like yourself with low intelligence/mentality would be the same as trying to explain it to a sock puppet. You've lived in your controlled environment of Grand Haven all your life and don't have a clue as to how the other half lives because you've never ventured out of your element. Maybe it's time for you to step outside of the box. You might learn something.

This is a scary story and I hope they locate those who perpetrated these acts.

But, I'm disappointed with the comments, on this page, that seem to reveal prejudice. The comments infer that increased cultural diversity will create damage to the community. I believe it can actually enrich our community. The truth is, not every person of color is a violent criminal. Not every white guy is a serial killer. When we label or stereotype a whole group based on the actions of some - we reveal racist attitudes. In my view - racism is a destructive dehumanizing evil. It can hide away and not make the news, but it does its damage.

The wonderful thing about our country is that we all have the right to believe what we want and speak our beliefs, however, I encourage us to dig deeper and understand why we may believe the way we do and what it may say about us. An additional right is the right to seek further understanding, nudge our views and even choose a new path.

Have you been living in a cave all of your life or what? Time for you to take off your rose-coloured glasses DUDE. I get the distinct impression that you DO NOT live in the REAL world and have a bad habit of candy coating every incident that happens aorund you.

truthhurts

The real truth is, that uneducated people cause crime; along with the ones that live off the government and my pay checks and Im sick of it. Get a job! The only thing unfortunate here is that the store owner did not have a gun, let that be a lesson.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, HavenDude.
