The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on Stratford Way in Holland. When police arrived on the scene, they found the 17-year-old boy who fired the gun had been injured and was drunk.
The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released, and then arrested for being in possession of a handgun while intoxicated. He is being held on that charge pending further investigation, Holland police said.
Police later recovered what they said was the gun used in the incident, a .40-caliber handgun. Detectives said they are following up on ownership of that gun.
