Ottawa County deputies found the body of Paul DeTrano, 36, between 3 and 4 p.m. Tuesday about 100 yards from shore in the 4700 block of Lakeshore Drive in Park Township. That's the same area where witnesses said he was last seen Sunday.
Investigators said a kayaker first spotted the body Monday, but deputies were not able to find it when they searched. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter assisted in Tuesday's search and directed search crews to the body.
DeTrano was visiting the Lakeshore with friends, police said. His family had rented a cottage in Park Township for years.
Investigators said DeTrano's death is not suspicious. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday morning.
UPDATE: The autopsy conducted this morning confirmed that Paul DeTrano died from accidental drowning, police announced late this morning.
