Police said Lauren Schierbeck, 17, was driving north on 16th Avenue in Jamestown Township at about 7:19 a.m., stopped at the stop sign at Riley Street, and then proceeded into the path of the garbage truck.

Schierbeck and two passengers, a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, were taken by ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, said Sgt. Mike Bagladi of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

A hospital spokesperson said Schierbeck, a Jamestown Township resident, was treated and released. No information was available on either passenger.

Police said the driver of the truck, Trever Potjer, 23, of Grandville, was not injured.

Bagladi said fogged-up windows in the car contributed to the crash.
