Arrest could solve several larceny from car crimes

The arrest of a 20-year-old Holland man early Sunday morning may help resolve a number of larceny from car cases in northwest Ottawa County, said Sgt. Curt Theune of the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Department.

Police were summoned to the 200 block of Barber Court at 2:40 a.m. Sunday when a resident reported a suspicious person near a car with its dome light on.

Officers responded on foot and saw a man walking toward a car that police had been on alert to look for a couple of weeks earlier.

One officer identified himself and ordered the man to stop, but “he bolted to his car,” Theune said.

The man ditched the car a couple of blocks away, and was located a short time later walking down the Lakeside Trail.

Theune said the man was lodged at the Ottawa County Jail on charges of resisting and obstructing a police officer, possession of controlled substances — including marijuana, spice and prescription drugs, and possession of stolen property.

Court officials said the man was expected to be arraigned this afternoon.

Theune said he believes this arrest may help solve other larceny from car incidents in the City of Grand Haven, as well as in Spring Lake Township.
